PrintAustin Invitational: f l u x | 2018
January 27 - February 18 | Link & Pin | Austin, TX
Austin, TX -- The 2018 PrintAustin Invitational presents emerging perspectives in printmaking. Guest curated by Paloma Mayorga, f lux explores the fluidity between traditional and nontraditional mediums. By fusing various disciplines with serigraphy techniques, featured artists Essentials, Mirjam Dijkema, Nansi Guevara, and Michael Menchaca offer local and international approaches to this medium. Selected for their distinctive processes, which lift traditional print off the paper, the works of these artists offer progressive ways to reconsider printmaking.
The versatility of serigraphy lends itself to negotiate formal aspects of creating prints. A technique that was conventionally limited to a two dimensional surface, now permeates dimension and inhabits the viewer’s physical space. From collage to installation and textiles, the works in this exhibition make room for underrepresented narratives to flourish in a tradition-dominated field. PrintAustin is a nonprofit organization working with organizations and individuals throughout the visual arts community to showcase fine art prints during an annual month-long event from January 15 through February 15, 2017.
